ABOUT US
The MHS vocal Music Department is close to 200 students this year. Vocal music
opportunities for students exist in Cardinal Chorale, Cantus and Concert Choir. In addition,
students participate in extra-curricular musical activities, including the Broadway Bound (all
student voices from MHS are eligible), Chamber Singers (a Madrigal group with 32 members),
and Men’s Choir (all male voices from MHS are eligible). In addition student’s are
encouraged to form their own choral groups like Trios, Quartets, and Triple Trios. These
groups rehearse independently and have performed at Solo and Ensemble, retirement
communities, nursing homes, etc.
The MHS Choirs have been noted for their excellence under the direction of Mr. Thomas
Mielke. In recent years the choirs have been selected to perform at many festivals and events.
The MHS Concert Choir performs annually at the Middleton Holiday Pops Concert with the
Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra and at the Big Eight Choral Festival . Recent past performances
include a Concert Choir tour to New York City with a performance at Carnegie Hall. The
Chamber Singers will once again participate in the Augustana College Chamber Music Festival
in Rock Island, Ill and the Madrigal Dinners continue to be an annual highlight for this group.
Big Night of Bright Lights brings together Broadway Bound, middle school show choirs and
special guests for an evening of song and dance. These opportunities to perform in addition to
the Winter and Spring Concerts provide the students with a variety of vocal experiences to
enhance their musical desires. We are proud to support these events!
